Updated: Jan 3, 2023

Beginning Thursday, Jan. 5 at 8 a.m. residents of the City of Port Huron are welcome to register for the Port Huron Recreation Department’s upcoming winter programming.

Nonresidents may register starting at 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 6. Due to a partnership with Fort Gratiot, Burtchville, Clyde, and Port Huron Townships, their residents have been afforded the City of Port Huron’s resident rate.

The Recreation Department is reintroducing many familiar programs for the 2023 winter season. Returning sports include karate classes, dance programs, Modern Fencing, Drums Alive, Learn to Skate and Play With The Pros. SledFest and the Bring Your Own Grownup (BYOG) Sweetheart Dance are also popular returning events.

Newer events include:

-Puzzle Palooza, where teams compete in a 500 piece puzzle competition

-Adaptive Rec, activities designed to meet the neurodiversity needs of those who have developmental delays, cognitive impairments, physical impairments and/or autism

-Snowy Saturdays, visit the Recreation Department on Saturdays in January, excluding Jan. 28, and February for a hot chocolate and cookie while sledding at the Palmer Park hill

Friends of the St. Clair River and Lake St. Clair Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (LSC CISMA) are partnering with the Recreation Department to offer a new program called Sanborn Snowy Days Stewardship. In this program, participants learn how to identify and remove woody invasive plants and explore the snowy trails at Sanborn Park.

In addition, the Blue Water Lodge, Holiday by Atria Senior Living is sponsoring a returning popular program, Oldies Get Goodies. Seniors ages 60 or older who register for this program will receive a weekly goodie bag filled with activities from Jan. 29 to Feb. 18.
